Virticus can cut energy costs for parking garage and lot operators by as much as 50% with products that are available right now.
There are many different kinds of parking lots, including:
- Downtown "business district" lots, office buildings
- Movie theaters, sports stadiums and cultural centers
- Airports, train stations, and other transportation parking
- Schools, universities and churches
- Shopping malls
Most of these parking lots do not need to be fully lit for customer use between late evening and morning. Yet in many cases, all of the parking lights remain lit through the night. Likewise, some venues are only used on certain nights (e.g. for rock concerts or sporting events). And some, like bus or train stations, have schedules that are predictable and thus can have a lighting schedule that is tailored around the arrival and departure of the vehicle. Such a schedule, tied together with a motion sensor, provides an optimum balance between safety and the energy costs required to attain it.
In all cases, outdoor lighting provides an intrinsic value of safety. Virticus delivers the first intelligence that provides an awareness of when people actually need the light. The Virticus solution intimately connects the timeliness of providing that value when it is needed and yet does not burden owners with unnecessary operational costs.
Parking lots today do not have the ability to control their lighting at the individual level. Keeping these lots completely lit through the night is costly and wasteful. The Virticus solution also lowers maintenance costs associated with the network. By reducing the effective number of hours lights are on, the maintenance costs associated with replacement go down proportionally.
Parking lots are a great example of how Virticus products can be installed quickly and easily, resulting in immediate energy cost reductions and very fast payback.
Each fixture in the parking lot is fitted with a Rialto lighting controller, which is installed in the access panel of the street light or directly in the fixture in about ten minutes. The Rialto is available in a number of different configurations which are characterized by different combinations of features.
Facility lighting can be configured at the level of individual lamps, so that perimeter lights can be set differently than lights elsewhere in the venue. For facility-wide integrated control, Virticus can network the Rialto controllers together using the Ventura site manager and a PC-based application. In this configuration, commands from the Ventura site manager can be used to establish controller settings.
