Legal & Forensic
AI-assisted analysis for disputes, investigations and regulated decisions
For litigation, investigations and in-house legal teams, and the firms that instruct them. We analyse evidence, support disclosure, reconstruct transactions and model loss, and we test the AI tools legal teams rely on. Every finding is traceable to source and reviewed by a person before it reaches you, so the work is evidence prepared for regulatory, audit or litigation scrutiny. Fixed fee, agreed before we start.
From document to finding
TraceableMaterial received
Documents classified
Chronology built
Contradictions flagged
Reviewed by a person
Every finding links to the document it rests on, and a person checks it before it leaves us. What the material cannot settle is reported as open.
The shift
The record outgrew the people reading it
A dispute or an investigation now arrives as hundreds of thousands of emails, messages, ledgers and exports. Reading all of it by hand is no longer realistic, and reading a sample leaves the question of what was in the rest.
The gap
AI reads faster than anyone can check it
A tool that summarises a bundle or drafts a chronology can state something the documents do not say, cite a source that does not exist, or send privileged material somewhere it should not go. An output nobody can trace back to a document is a liability, however fluent it reads.
The standard
Every finding points to where it came from
Each date, figure and contradiction we report cites the document, page or row it rests on, and a person has checked it before it leaves us. What the material cannot settle is reported as open, never filled in.
What we do
Four services for disputes, investigations and regulated decisions
Litigation and disputes draw most on the first three; investigations on the first and third; and any team using AI on its matters on the fourth.
Evidence analysis
Chronologies built from the documents themselves, issues mapped to the evidence that bears on each one, and contradiction detection across witness accounts, correspondence and records, with every entry cited to its source.
Disclosure support
Document classification against the issues in dispute, duplicate and near-duplicate detection, and missing-period detection, so a gap in a custodian’s emails or a run of absent statements is found before the other side finds it.
Financial and damages analytics
Transaction reconstruction from bank records, ledgers and payment data, and loss modelling with each assumption stated and its effect on the figure shown, so the number can be taken apart as well as read.
Legal AI assurance
Testing of the AI tools a legal or investigations team relies on: hallucination and false citation, confidentiality and privilege leakage, whether each output can be traced to its source, and whether human oversight works in practice rather than on paper.
What every piece of work carries
Traceable to source, and reviewed before it leaves us
Analysis that cannot be traced back to the material is an opinion with extra steps. Everything below comes with the findings, in a form your team can check without us.
A source for every finding
The document, page, message or row each statement rests on, so any line can be checked in seconds.
What could not be determined
Reported as open, with what would settle it. A gap in the record is never read as nothing having happened.
The method, written down
How the material was searched, classified and tested, so the work can be repeated and explained.
Human review, recorded
Which findings were checked, against what, and what changed as a result.
Assumptions, with their effect
In loss and damages work, each assumption stated and the figure shown without it.
Confidentiality kept
Material handled only in the environment agreed for the matter, and nothing sent to a tool the matter has not approved.
How engagements are shaped
Start with one question on one matter
Most matters have one question that decides where the effort should go: when something happened, what is missing, or what the loss is. The first engagement answers that one.
Start here
Matter review
Fixed fee and timetable agreed before we start, after a twenty-minute call.
- One matter, one question: a chronology, a gap, a figure
- Scope set against the material that exists
- Written findings, each cited to its source
- What the material cannot answer, named
Then
Matter support
Scoped on the matter, alongside your legal team
- Evidence, disclosure and damages work as the matter moves
- Updated as new material arrives
- The method recorded, so the work can be repeated
- Your team keeps the analysis and its sources
Separately
Legal AI assurance
For a tool before it is relied on, and after it changes
- Tested on your own matters, not on a vendor’s examples
- Hallucination, citation and confidentiality tested
- Traceability and human oversight tested in use
- A written result, with what failed named
What we are not
Technical and analytical support, not legal representation
Virticus provides technical and analytical support, not regulated legal representation. We are not a law firm, we do not carry out reserved legal activities, and we do not advise on the law. On a contentious matter we work alongside, or on the instruction of, your legal advisers, and the conduct of the matter and every conclusion of law stay with them.
Whether evidence is admitted, and what weight it carries, is for the court, tribunal or regulator. What we can do is make sure every finding shows where it came from and what it could not settle.
Where this work meets the rest of what we do: the fraud and AML rules behind many investigations are fraud & AML rules work, and the automation a team puts around its own AI tools is AI & automation.
Starting
Tell us about the matter, not the method
A short call is enough to say whether a first review would help and what it would cost. Every enquiry is treated in confidence, and nothing about a matter is needed to start that conversation beyond what it concerns.
